Lumeno is a connect puzzle built out of coloured circles on a dark board.
You draw a path through touching circles of the same colour and they clear. That is the whole rule, and everything interesting comes from the fact that the path can be as long as you can make it. A chain of three is fine. A chain of eleven that snakes across the board is what the game is actually asking for.
The presentation matters here more than it usually does. The board is dark, the circles glow, and there is no clock anywhere. It is built to be played slowly, and played slowly it is a genuinely good puzzle rather than a time filler.
How to play
- Press and drag from one circle to a neighbouring circle of the same colour.
- Keep dragging to extend the chain as far as the colours allow.
- Release to clear every circle in the chain.
- Longer chains are worth more than several short ones.
- Special items on the board can be picked up by routing your path through them.

Chains, not matches
The scoring rewards length steeply enough that the difference between a good player and a beginner is not accuracy, it is patience. Beginners clear every group of three they see. The board refills, the colours scatter, and nothing accumulates.
The better habit is to leave small groups alone and wait for them to merge into something worth taking.
Special items
Items sitting on the board are collected by passing your chain through them rather than by clicking them. That means a slightly worse route which picks up an item is often better than the longest available chain.
Before you commit to a path, check whether a two circle detour would sweep something up.
Tips and strategy
Building longer chains
- Trace the route with your eye before you touch the board. Once you start dragging it is easy to take the obvious branch and miss a longer one.
- Clear from the edges inward. Circles at the edge have fewer neighbours, so leaving them tends to strand them.
- When two colours are equally available, take the one with more circles on the board. The other will still be there next turn.
Reading the refill
- New circles drop into the space you cleared, so a chain taken from the bottom reshuffles far more of the board than one taken from the top.
- If the board is dominated by one colour, take a different colour first. Clearing the majority just brings more of it back.
Where it falls apart
- Taking every group of three on sight. It is the single biggest cause of a low score.
- Ignoring items because they are not part of the chain. They are worth a detour.
- Rushing. There is no clock, and the game gives nothing back for playing fast.
