Word Scramble gives you a jumble of letters and a board of empty slots, one for every word those letters can make.
You are not looking for the answer. You are looking for all of them, and the board tells you how many there are and how long each one is before you find it.
How to play Word Scramble
- Spell a word using the scrambled letters at the bottom of the screen, either by clicking them in order or by typing.
- Press Enter to submit it.
- Use backspace or undo to take letters back if you change your mind.
- A correct word drops into its slot on the board and stays there.
- Shuffle the letters whenever you stall. The same set in a different order reads completely differently.
- Fill every slot to finish the round.
A real word that is not on the board is not wasted. It goes into the bonus bar instead, and a full bonus bar reveals one letter of a word you have not found yet. Speed counts too: the quicker a round is finished, the more it is worth.
Tips and strategy
Each empty slot shows the length of the word missing from it, which is more information than it first appears.
- Start with the three and four letter slots. They come quickly and they usually expose the stem of the longer words.
- Work the endings. Try S, ED, ER and ING on every word you have already found.
- Shuffle early and often. Most missed words are missed because the eye locked onto one arrangement of the letters.
- Guess freely. A wrong answer costs nothing at all, and an unlisted real word still feeds the bonus bar.
