What to look for
Cats are rarely drawn whole. Most of what you are hunting is a fragment: two ears above a box, a paw under a curtain, one eye in a dark corner.
That is why scanning for whole cat shapes fails. The reliable signal is a curve where the rest of the drawing is straight, and a pair of anything, because eyes and ears come in twos.
Tips and strategy
Search in bands
- Divide the picture into horizontal strips and clear one strip at a time.
- Do not let your eye wander to whatever is brightest. Bright areas are where the artist wants you looking, which is where the cats are not.
- Finish a strip before moving on, even when you are convinced it is empty.
Where cats hide
- Behind and under furniture, with only an edge showing.
- Along the top of the frame, where players forget to look because the action is in the middle.
- Blended into an object of the same colour, so that only the outline gives it away.
- Half out of frame at the very edges of the picture.
Pace
Speed and accuracy pull against each other, and accuracy wins. A steady sweep that finds everything beats a fast sweep that finds most of it and then costs you the rest of the round hunting for one animal you skipped over twice.
If you get stuck on the last one, look again at the places you cleared first. That is almost always where it is, because you cleared them before your eye had adjusted to how the artist hides things.
