Bubble Dragons

Bubble Dragons puts an egg behind a wall of coloured bubbles and asks you to dig it out before the wall reaches the bottom of the screen.

That framing changes how the standard bubble shooter plays. You are not clearing the board for its own sake, you are clearing a specific route to a specific place, and bubbles that sit nowhere near the egg are only worth popping if popping them brings the roof down faster.

It looks gentle. The pressure comes from the fact that the field advances on a schedule you cannot pause, so every shot that achieves nothing costs you a row.

How to play Bubble Dragons

Aim with the mouse or your finger, release, and the bubble travels until it hits something.

  • Three or more bubbles of the same colour touching each other pop.
  • Anything left hanging with no connection to the ceiling falls, whether it matches or not.
  • The next bubble in the queue is visible, so you always know what is coming after the one you are holding.
  • The field creeps down as you play, and letting it reach the line at the bottom ends the run.
  • Free every egg on the board to finish the level.

Walls are part of the aim

The bubble bounces off the left and right edges at the same angle it arrives. Nothing else on the screen behaves that way, which makes the walls the only tool you have for reaching a gap that sits behind an overhang.

Anyone who plays a whole level shooting in straight lines is leaving half the board unreachable.

The eggs are the objective

Eggs hang in the mass like any other piece, but they do not pop. They come free when the bubbles holding them are gone, and then they drop.

That is why a level is often won by one well placed shot rather than by twenty tidy ones.

Tips and strategy

Drop clusters, do not just pop them

Popping three bubbles removes three bubbles. Popping three bubbles that were the only thing anchoring a dozen more removes fifteen, and the dozen count for a great deal more.

Before shooting, look for the narrow point where a large group connects to the rest of the ceiling. That connection is the shot. It is almost always worth more than the obvious match sitting in front of you.

Colour counting

Watch which colours are disappearing from the field. When the last bubble of a colour goes, that colour usually stops appearing in your queue.

This is the quiet way to make a hard level easier. Clear a colour out entirely and every future shot draws from a smaller pool, which means the bubble you need arrives sooner and the field becomes far more predictable.

Shooting to park

Not every shot can accomplish something. When the queue hands you a colour with no useful target, the question changes from where do I score to where does this do least harm.

Park it low on the outside edge, away from the middle of the board, where it will not block the channel you are opening. Parking it in the centre is how a clean board becomes a wall in three turns.

Read the level before the first shot

The eggs are already visible. So is the shape of the mass and the point where it is thinnest.

Spend the few seconds before you shoot deciding which side you are attacking from. Levels that look impossible usually have one soft edge, and players who start shooting immediately tend to attack the hardest part of the board because it is the part directly above the launcher.

Explosive bubbles need a target

The specials clear an area rather than a colour match, which makes them the answer to a tightly packed corner that no ordinary shot can reach.

Save one if you can see a corner coming. Firing it into open space because it was in the queue is the most common way a level is lost with the tools to win it still available.

When the field is nearly down

Late in a losing level, tidy play stops helping. Two more rows and it is over regardless of how neat the board looks.

At that point take the highest risk shot on the board, the one that either drops a huge section or does nothing. A shot that has a small chance of saving the level is worth more than a certain small gain that delays the end by one turn.

Replaying a level you lost

The layouts are fixed. Lose a level and the same arrangement of bubbles and eggs is waiting when you start again, which means the second attempt is not a fresh roll of the dice.

Use that. On the run you lost, you learned where the thin point in the mass was and which side of the board the eggs were easiest to reach from. Starting again with that knowledge is a different game from starting blind, and levels that felt unfair usually fall on the second or third try.

The bubbles in the queue vary between attempts, so the plan has to be a direction rather than a script. Knowing that you are attacking from the left and cutting the anchor above the second egg is a plan. Knowing that you will place a red at a specific coordinate is not, and it will fall apart on the first shot.

Frequently asked questions

What is the goal in Bubble Dragons?

Free every dragon egg on the level. Eggs do not pop like bubbles, they drop once the bubbles holding them are cleared away.

Do the bubbles bounce off the walls?

Yes, off the left and right edges at the same angle they arrive. Bank shots are the only way to reach gaps hidden behind an overhang.

Why did so many bubbles fall at once?

Anything no longer connected to the ceiling falls, regardless of colour. Cutting the anchor of a large group clears far more than a plain three match.

How do I make hard levels easier?

Eliminate a colour completely. Once the last bubble of a colour is gone it stops coming up in the queue, so every later shot is drawn from a smaller pool.

What happens if I run out of room?

The field advances as you play, and the run ends when it reaches the line at the bottom. Shots that achieve nothing effectively cost you a row.

Is Bubble Dragons free?

Yes, free in the browser with no download and no account.
