The tableau looks like Klondike. Face down columns, a stock pile in the corner, empty slots waiting along the top. What sits on the cards is words.

A theme card carries a counter such as 0/4 and does nothing at all until you drag it into one of those top slots. Once a theme is open you feed it words that belong to it, four in all, and the counter climbs as you go. Lily goes to Flowers. Pizza and Burger go to Food. The columns hide everything underneath, so the only way to see further down is to clear what is sitting on top of it. The settings hold one switch, for sound, and nothing else, which means the choice of which theme to open first is the real decision of the level rather than something you can take back.

How to play Word Deck Solitaire

  • Drag a theme card out of the tableau into a free slot along the top. That opens the theme.
  • Drag word cards onto an open theme when they belong to it.
  • A theme takes four words. The counter on it shows how many it still wants.
  • Take a card from the stock pile when nothing on the board will move.
  • Clear the tableau to finish the level.

Tips and strategy

  • Open a theme you can already feed. The slots along the top are few, and a theme sitting open with nothing to put on it is a slot you cannot use for the theme you can actually fill.
  • Read the counter before you commit a slot. A theme at 3/4 wants one more word and frees itself quickly. One at 0/4 ties up a slot for four moves.
  • The trap is a word that would sit happily in two different themes. Hold it until one of the two is nearly full. The theme that still needs three words will take it just as well later, the one that needs one will not wait.

Frequently asked questions

Is Word Deck Solitaire really a solitaire game?

It is played on a solitaire tableau, with columns of face down cards and a stock pile, and you move cards by dragging them. What changes is the sorting rule. Instead of building by rank and suit you build by meaning.

How many words does a theme need?

Four. The counter on the theme card shows how many of them you have placed, so a card reading 2/4 is waiting for two more.

Can I undo a move?

The settings panel holds a sound switch and nothing else, and there is no undo control on the board.
