Fruity Party

Grapes, apples, bananas and pears fall into a grid, and every clear sets off lights and noise. Fruity Party is a disco dressed as a match three game.

The presentation is loud on purpose, and it hides a fairly strict game underneath. Levels come with goals and limits, and the players who finish them are not the ones matching fastest.

How to play Fruity Party

  • Swap two fruit that sit next to each other.
  • Any line of three or more of the same fruit clears.
  • Fruit above a cleared line falls down and new fruit drops in from the top.
  • The swap must produce a match, otherwise the fruit snap back.
  • Reach the level goal before the moves or the clock run out.

Bigger matches

Three in a row is the minimum, not the target. Line up four and you get something that clears a whole row or column. Line up five, or bend the match into an L or a T, and you get a piece that clears far more.

The habit worth building is to pause on every board and ask whether one extra swap turns a three into a four. It usually does, and it usually costs nothing.

Tips and strategy

Set up before you clear

  • The best move on most boards is not the match you can see, it is the match you can create by moving one fruit into position first.
  • Look one row below whatever you are about to clear. That is where the falling fruit will land.
  • Leave clusters of the same colour sitting together. They are the raw material for the next combo.

Reading the goal

Levels do not all want the same thing. Some count score, some count a specific fruit, some want you to clear the board down to a particular row.

  • On a score level, cascades matter more than anything else.
  • On a colour level, every match that ignores the target colour is close to a wasted move.
  • On a clearing level, work the bottom rows and let gravity do the rest.

Mistakes that cost levels

  • Matching at the top of the board, where nothing falls into the space you made.
  • Breaking up a cluster of four to take an easy three.
  • Playing quickly on a level that limits moves rather than time. Speed only helps when the clock is the constraint.
