Spellbound hands you a short row of scrambled letters and asks how much you can get out of them.
Every level is a closed set. There is no drawing new tiles and no refreshing the rack, so the letters in front of you are the entire puzzle. That constraint is what makes it hold up: a rack that looks empty on first reading almost never is, and the game is really a test of how long you are willing to keep looking.
How to play Spellbound
- The scrambled letters sit at the bottom of the screen.
- Click or tap them in order to spell a word, then submit it.
- Correct words are recorded and the letters return to the rack for reuse.
- Shuffle rearranges the rack without changing which letters you have.
- Each level has a target. Meet it and the next set of letters is dealt.
Every valid word counts, including the short ones, so there is no penalty for clearing the obvious three letter answers before you go hunting for the long one.
Tips and strategy
- Shuffle before you think. Most missed words are missed because the eye locked onto the first arrangement it saw and never let go of it.
- Build in families. Once you have found a stem, run the endings through it: S, ED, ER, ING, LY. That single habit usually doubles a level.
- Work the vowels. Count them first. Two vowels in a seven letter rack means the long answer is consonant heavy and probably ends in a common suffix.
- Take the three letter words early. They cost nothing, they bank progress towards the target, and they often expose the stem of something longer.
- If a rack genuinely will not open, look for a word that uses your least useful letter. Forcing the awkward tile into play is faster than rereading the easy ones.
Word Scramble plays the same way but tells you how many words you are missing, which some people find easier and others find worse.
