How to play Word Jungle

• Letters appear at the bottom of the screen against a jungle backdrop.
• Drag through them to spell a word.
• Correct words are recorded on the board above.
• Find every word the level is looking for to move on.
• Levels add letters as you progress.

Reading the board

The board shows how many words you are missing and how long each is. That is the most useful information available and most players ignore it in favour of staring at the letters.

Before dragging anything, count the slots. A level asking for one long word and five short ones is a completely different puzzle from one asking for six of the same length.

When levels get long

At six or seven letters, exhaustive searching stops working. What works instead is structure: find the stem, then run the endings, then look at what letters remain unused and force them into play.

Tips and strategy

First moves

• Solve the longest slot first when you can see it. It usually uses most of the letters and everything else is built from its pieces.
• If it will not come, clear the three letter slots. They are cheap and they show you which letters are still spare.
• Shuffle or reread the letters out of order before you decide a level is impossible. Fixation on one arrangement is the usual culprit.

Building families

• Run S, ED, ER and ING through every word you have already found.
• Look for a prefix in the spare letters. RE, UN and IN convert a found word into another one.
• Doubled letters almost always both appear in the same answer.

Common mistakes

• Hunting for unusual words. The vocabulary stays ordinary all the way through.
• Ignoring the slot lengths and treating the level as an open word hunt.
• Long sessions. Word recall drops noticeably after ten or fifteen minutes.
