Wordling: Daily Word Challenge

The menu offers four ways in, and the daily one offers four more. Daily Word carries the date and four length chips, so the puzzle for today exists at four, five, six and seven letters and you pick which of them you want to sit with. Worlds works through numbered levels, Endless keeps handing you words for as long as you want them, and Word Run stays locked until you have made some progress.

Whichever you open, the rule is the same: six guesses at a hidden word, and after each one the tiles answer back. Green means that letter is right and in the right place, yellow means it is in the word but somewhere else, grey means you can stop typing it. Wordling plays in ten languages and treats accented letters as their plain forms, so A with an accent counts as a plain A, which quietly removes a layer of guesswork on the languages that use them.

Tips and strategy

  • Spend the first guess on five different letters. Repeating a letter inside the same word teaches you half as much, and the opening guess is the only one where you know nothing at all.
  • A yellow tile is worth more than it looks. Green confirms a letter and a place. Yellow confirms a letter and rules out a place, which is two pieces of information rather than one.
  • When two candidates are left and three guesses remain, use one on a word that separates them even if it cannot win. Guessing one of the two and being wrong leaves you in the same position with one guess fewer.
  • The seven letter puzzle is not simply the hard version. Longer words carry more repeated letters, so an opening guess built from five distinct letters covers proportionally less of it, and the second guess matters more there than it does at four.

Word Master is the same idea at five letters only, and Wordish is our own daily version with a shared word and a streak. The rest of the word games are here.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the daily word?

Whichever you choose. The daily puzzle comes in four lengths, at four, five, six and seven letters, and each one is its own puzzle for that day.

How many guesses do I get?

Six, in every mode. Each guess has to be a real word, and it comes back coloured so you can narrow the next one.

Do accented letters matter?

No. Wordling states that special characters are not considered, so A with an accent is treated as A and O with an umlaut as O. The keyboard stays the same in all ten languages.
